I finally made the decision to wanting to move into a student accomodation away from my family due to a lot of issues I have with them whilst being stuck in the environment with them every single day and I’ve been dealing with those issues for YEARS and the vast amount of times I’ve been expressing of how desperate I am to wanna move out and escape from them. I already had enough of it all and all of the constant negative feelings and stress I have with them and my life in general too.
I know I need to get away, whilst still being on the waitlist for the public housing application that I had to do for myself last year. Because that waitlist for the public housing takes YEARS!!
The thing is, because my family and I are all gonna be relocating to a new apartment soon, I do have to ask if anyone here that has had experience of moving out, knows how long it usually takes to be able to move out after you signed the lease contract for the new apartment/house you’re moving to?
Because the other day (and today) I spoke with the booking manager of the company of the student accomodation, she told me to let her know before the end of this week about the move-in date for me to move into the student accomodation, since the student accomodations are first-come first-serve and some other things etc. etc.
I did tell her yesterday that I’d like to do the October move-in, because I was getting the impression that my family and I are gonna relocate to the new apartment next month (plus we don’t even know the exact date yet of when we’re actually gonna be relocating), because the 30th August is when they’ll be officially signing the contract.
I know you’re wondering why I had to move in with my family first before I can move away from them, is because they needed me to do so after we all move in and that’s because…if it was the 4 of us (myself included) moving in, then we’d be given a room that has 3 bedrooms. Otherwise if I chose to move out before they all move into the new apartment, then they’d be given a smaller room instead and they don’t want that.

From what I know, it's all dependant on what is going on. That is, is the property vacant already? Does it need renovations? Do they need to wait for tenants to get out first? Do you need to wait for internet and utilites to be connected? @Blackcloud
From a business model, you usually get in as soon as possible so they don't lose out on rent.
The contract will state which day you are moving in.
Then, as soon as you are given keys, you can start moving in.
All the best!

Hi @tyme
yeah, it’s actually a brand new apartment that they’ve(the building construction ppl) just made (constructed) and have finished. My parents went out to check and see what the new rooms in the new apartment look like a few days ago. They plan to sign the contract to move to that new apartment on the 30th August.
Plus idk if you’re aware of the news regarding the public housing towers [edited by moderator] planning to be demolished in the future, etc. because that’s the reason why most of the tenants that have lived in these buildings have already moved. This includes me and my family as well, but we’re yet to be moving soon.

Ahhh, makes sense @Blackcloud . I'm guessing that once it's signed, then they are all good to go. It shouldn't take long after the contract is signed seeing no one is there. The only thing is with new buildings, they need to have final inspections and occupancy certs to be done.
By the way, the above is purely from my experiences and is NOT definite. The best thing is to ask the people in charge.
Sounds exciting though!

Hello @Blackcloud ,
Did you end up calling?
Hope today has been good for you.
By the way, what are you studying (if you feel like answering)? Moving into student accommodation can be so exciting!

Hi @tyme
yes I did end up calling them.
she said usually it would take 1-2 weeks after the lease contract has been signed by the tenants in order to move in.
she also said that the ones that are in charge of the relocation or whatever would give us the move-in date.
im studying a TAFE course but I won’t specify it 🙂

@tyme im excited about moving into the student accomodation yes, and I’ve already got it booked for October 4th to move into there!!
I do hope that the roommate I’ll be living with is nice though, despite the student accomodation having only students as the tenants there.

@tyme i just hope that after I move into the accomodation, that I’ll be able to adapt to having a much healthier lifestyle (like going to the gym/workout daily and having a very flexible schedule) compared to now. I’ve read on the accomodation website somewhere that according to the stats, uni students that live in the student accomodation have found that they’re able to eat more healthy food and be able to be more active and have better mental health etc. etc. so I’m hoping I’ll be able to do the same and I’m pretty confident that I will.
also, just a random thought but it’s also sad how all the prices for everything have increased after covid…but even though I know what to spend my money with since I’ve already started making a budget, it’s still unfair and a huge pain that everything has to go up… ://
