Re: Chronic kidney disease & mental health

"the protein high is because the filters in my kidney are damaged and all the toxins are leaking in to my body"

Am sorry to hear this @Shaz51 . Do the toxins make you feel rotten all the time? Does drinking lots of water help?

Re: Chronic kidney disease & mental health

Hi @Shaz51

I think it's really great that you can go on the kidney donation list if that's what you want to do  - it's tough having to go through it but it will make a huge difference to your life  - I am excited for you  - and Mr Shaz wants to donate one of his  - isn't that really special

Thinking of you

Re: Chronic kidney disease & mental health

Hi Shaz51

I am new to the forums. I'm sorry to hear that you are at the stage of seeking a kidney donor. It must be a relief to have Mr Shaz supporting you with this. I hope you are able to navigate the process without too much stress. One of the reasons I joined the forum is that I have chronic kidney damage. I have been advised to reduce or eliminate one of my medications which has caused the damage and continues to compromise my kidney function. I am interested to know how your journey to needing a transplant has evolved. Did you monitor your kidney function over a long period of time or was it a relatively quick decline. I am about to make a decision about changing medication and I am curious to know about your journey. I hope this makes sense. Thanks, Kelsey

Re: Chronic kidney disease & mental health

hello and welcome to the forum @Kelsey

I have had kidney disease for 10 years now

and Diabetes and Arthritis for 2 years

I was born with only one kidney

my kidney is slowly declining at the moment

but changing a few things can help make the journey longer

and once your kidney level gets to a certain point they start talking to you about dialylis and transplant

what level  and % is your kidney ?

a lot of pain medications are no good for our kidneys

Love to hear more about yours so I can give you a few more hints

will be back soon

also remember to put a @ in front of someones name so they can get your message

Re: Chronic kidney disease & mental health

Hi @Shaz51
Thank you for sharing more about your health situation. It sounds quite complex with the other conditions. I’m not sure about describing the level but it is 127 and 39. Does that make sense? Whilst it is not really serious, the challenge for me is going off the medication which has caused the damage. I have to start on another mood stabiliser which has some unpleasant side affects or an antipsychotic. I have to decide in two weeks time. It is a hard choice because the chance or relapse as I decrease the other med is quite high. I value any other information you can share. Thank you.

Re: Chronic kidney disease & mental health

Hi @Shaz51. Just another thought. I have to drink about 4litres of water a day. Is this something that you have to do?

Re: Chronic kidney disease & mental health

hello @Kelsey

it might not be  really serious at the moment but little changes will make all the difference

are you seeing a kidney specialist or a dietician yet at all ??

my specialist said to drink enough water that when you go to the bathroom it should be clear ,

I drink around the 2 litres of water a day

hope you find a med that is kidney friendly

at the moment i take 11 meds a day
